The Slingbox device uses an infrared transmitter to change the channels on your cable receiver in the same way that your remote control changes channels. The Slingbox then connects to your home internet router so you can access the Slingbox through your home network. With the Slingbox software installed on your computer, you can then watch your Comcast cable programming on your computer from any location that has Internet access. You have multiple options depending on the type of connection you want to use. The red, white and yellow RCA connection offers non-HD while the green, blue and red component cable offers a higher quality video connection. The HD connect cable is the highest quality connection, but is only available on the Slingbox Pro model. Some connections only transfer video, such as the S-Video connection and basic composite. For these connections, you will also need to plug in a separate audio cable. For instance, plug the red and white audio composite cables to the “In” ports on the back of your Slingbox, then connect the other end to the “Out” ports on the back of your Comcast cable box. The IR blaster must be set above the infrared remote sensor.

They aggregate this information and create an EDID block to send to the source that only contains formats that are supported by ALL connected displays. This happens with my splitter whenever I add or remove a display when the device is on. There will also be a delay as an HDCP connection is established. Obviously this is a major copyright ‘breach’ device – but it does have real world uses such as allowing HDCP sources to be converted to unencrypted HD-SDI for routing purposes, off-air ‘fair use’ recording etc.

May 17,  · Best TV Tuner? I’ve got a Slingbox Pro on the way to hook up to my HD with TiVo, but I don’t know if that’s what I want. Anybody have experience with Hauppauge products or Pinnacle PCTV To Go HD Wireless?

Sorry, something has gone wrong. Out of all the devices in the placeshifting market, the slingbox is by far the easiest to setup. You must have a router at the house you want to put the slingbox in. If you do not have a router, go out and buy one. Once you have a router, you need to make sure there is a way to connect your router and slingbox together. The slingbox must go where the cable TV wall jack is. If for example, your router is sitting in your basement and the TV wall jack is on the floor above, you will need to buy additional devices.

I suggest powerline instead of wireless. One of these devices plugs into the wall near your router, and then an ethernet goes from the powerline device to your router. With the other adapter, it plugs into the wall near your slingbox, and then an ethernet cable connects the slingbox and that adapter together. This uses your electrical wires to transmit data. It is much simpler to setup than wireless. Once you have the connections all setup, then you install the software on the computer.

It is pretty straight forward except for one thing.

Monsoon Vulkano Flow Review – Place-Shifting Isn’t Dead Yet

By Brian Osborne The key term in the latest Slingbox is HD. This is the first Slingbox which can actually stream in high definition. A Slingbox allows you to watch television from any networked computer in the home or even outside the home on the Internet. Jan 11,  · It might be worth that much to me to have a backup to my existing Slingbox PRO HD. I could connect my Tivo Mini to the HDMI side and the Roku 3, through the HDMI to Component adapter, on the other side.

After a year or two of playing around with Orb’s PC software, I found my way into the beta for the original Slingbox my full review here. It was a revolutionary device to say the least; with it you could bring your home television services with you anywhere you went. Our company provided the software for the beta forum, which morphed into the SlingCommunity website when the Slingbox launched. It’s no more today, but I have fond memories of running that site for over five years.

Sling Media carved the path for place-shifting and remains the dominant player, but that hasn’t stopped others from trying to get in on the action. Well, one other at least. Monsoon Multimedia, founded by the same guys who created Dazzle back in the 90s, started competing in the space several years ago with their lineup of Hava place-shifters. I checked out a demo during CES a while back, but always shied away from doing any reviews personally given my role at SlingCommunity. Instead, Doug Feltau did a review for DVRplayground, which is well worth a read if you want to learn more about it.

With SlingCommunity gone, and Sling Media no longer innovating in the consumer place-shifting space since being acquired by Dish Network they haven’t had a new retail product since the Slingbox PRO-HD launched in September of , it’s high time I take a look at what Monsoon’s entry level place-shifter, the Vulkano Flow, has to offer. Like its Slingbox rival, the Flow is a single source streamer offering an HD compatible component video, composite, and stereo audio.

Germany game, with the loved and hated vuvuzela in the background. The first thing I thought when writing the SlingPlayer release article last week was how great it would be to be able to watch the World Cup while sitting at my desk at work as a way to both enjoy the World Cup and escape from my hectic days of late. SlingPlayer is a wonderful idea — take the TV service that you already pay for, and let you enjoy it from wherever you happen to be at the time.

Setting up the Slingbox Solo was a breeze. Simply plug in the power strip, connect the included composite cable, and hook up the infrared receivers to your Satellite or Cable TV box and the Slingbox itself is ready to go. It is worth mentioning at the outset that you can only watch one stream at a time, so you will not be able to have one stream running on your laptop, and another on your Android phone, well, not at the same time anyway.
